CAROL BLANN Obituary

BLANN--Carol, died on July 2 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Carol, proud mother of Emily and Molly, and wife of 40 years to Jim, lived in both Edgemont and Manhattan. Carol had a long career in psychotherapy and was involved in many community leadership roles in Edgemont. Carol continued to be active professionally throughout her battle with Parkinson's. Eventually, Carol had to give up most of her psychotherapy practice, but was able to rekindle her love of photography and found ways to continue relationships with people, which she cherished. Carol was born in Cincinnati on October 7, 1948 and grew up in Ohio and Michigan. She graduated from Miami University and earned a MSW from New York University as the springboard to her psychotherapy practice. Carol and her husband Jim were married in 1971 and later had two daughters. Carol is survived by her husband, Jim, and her daughters, Emily and Molly. She is also survived by her mother Kathleen Shapiro, siblings Trish Weisman, Marnie Foster Marks, Dan Michaels, and Amy Shapiro. Carol is preceded in her death by her father, Miller Weisman, and her brother Steve Weisman. Carol's strong presence is sorely missed by her family as well as her many long-time friends gained through her community, profession, and photography. Donations should be considered to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, the Michael J Fox Foundation, and the International Center of Photography. There will be a memorial service for friends and family to be announced at a later date.

To the Blann Family,
I recently read of Carol's passing and was so sorry to.
Although obviously not a close friend I will always remember her kindness and the braveness she showed the world.
Recently, my daughter Erica, who was for some time a good friend of Molly's, asked me how Carol was.It seemed so out of the blue and yet, perhaps not.
Again, we are so sorry for your loss.

This is a note to the Blann family from someone who had only just met Carol over the phone this spring. We agreed to delay the May 2011 home visit for a PD study, because she was feeling tired. Her warmth and generosity were very evident and her commitment to helping us unravel the causes of PD were unwaivering. With deep respect, Carol Moskowitz and the Columbia University team

Dear Jim, Emily & Molly, We met Carol through the Parkinson's community and have cherished her friendship, her warmth, generous spirit and sense of joy. She inspired with her determination to create a full, creative life and sense of adventure even when she was sorely tested to do so. Her photography was a true gift. May her love comfort you and may her memory and legacy always be a blessing.
