CAROL HOWELL

HOWELL--Carol Pallange, 83, of New York, NY, passed away on November 25, 2022. Carol grew up in Alexandria, VA, and later in New London, CT. She graduated in 1961 from Duke University and married Peter B. Howell, Jr. in 1964, and they remained married until his death in 2008. They lived most of their married life on West 21st Street in Chelsea, except for short periods in San Francisco and Philadelphia. In 1984 they became the proud owners of the corner store on their block - the L&S Dairy. With red-checkered tablecloths and an old-fashioned cash register, the country store was the town square where neighbors would nosh, meet, and mingle. Although L&S closed its doors in 1994, Carol remained a fixture in the community, cherished by neighbors and their canine companions throughout her years. Carol is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Maggie and Spencer Wilhelm, and granddaughter Eleanor. She shared her nature-loving spirit with them, who carry their mother's zest for life, adventure, and deep compassion in all they do. A memorial service will be held at 1pm on December 17 at the General Theological Seminary.
