Mister Daytop, as Charlie was affectionately known to those who knew him, lived the classic success story life. He rose from the gutters in the streets of Brooklyn to become Daytop's first inpatient resident back in 1963, and climbed the ranks to Senior Vice President and CEO within the organization before retiring at the top of his game after 48 years. Along the way he met and married his soul mate, Whitney, and together they raised two sons creating a loving family that he was very proud of. Charlie was a happy man, content with the way his life unfolded. With his refreshing positive attitude and sense of humor he made people feel good about themselves just being around him. I can only imagine how many countless lives have been changed and saved as a result of Charlie's dedicated and tireless efforts in promoting the Therapeutic Community modality of treatment in the fight against the disease of drug addiction. Thank you Charlie. You will always be a part of our memories. Good bye my friend.

Charlie inspired many of us with his warmth, his wisdom and his infectious laugh.

The field of substance use disorders would not be what it is today without Charlie's ideas, energy and insights.

My sincere condolences to Whitney, Jason and Eric.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there is a hope for our love ones lost in death can be reassuring.
