Christine Conrad Obituary

1940 - 2015
Christine Conrad, author and screenwriter for television and film and women's health advocate, passed away at Cedar Sinai Hospital surrounded by family and friends.
Christine Conrad's most recent published work was the novel "Mademmoiselle Benoir" from Houghton Mifflin. It was preceded by her pictorial biography "Jerome Robbins: That Broadway Man, That Ballet Man," inspired by her long relationship with him. Ms. Conrad began working full-time as a writer for film and television in the early 1980's after moving to Los Angeles. She is well-known for originating the screenplay of "Junior" which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. Raised in New York City, she worked there in theater; as an editor in book publishing; and as a New York City film commissioner. Her own serious illness in the mid-90's galvanized her to become an advocate for women's health, and she wrote two books, "Natural Woman, Natural Menopause," and "A Women's Guide to Natural Hormones." Through her non-profit foundation www.naturalwomen.org, she provided women with doctor referrals for bio-identical hormones and has helped thousands of women get life-changing treatment. She produced two stories for radio that were broadcast by the BBC, "Ties That Bind" and read by Kathleen Turner, and "Under My Skin," read by Calista Flockhart.
She leaves behind her partner of over sixteen years, Kamal Madjidi of Los Angeles; a sister, Diane Conrad of Brewster, MA; a niece, Carrie Altemus of New Orleans, LA; and two nephews, Mark Grein of Prague, Czech Republic, and Matthew Grein of Cambridge, MA.
