CLARE MACINTYRE-ROSS Obituary

MacINTYRE-ROSS--Clare

Alden, of Falls Church, VA, and formerly of New York City and Scarsdale, NY, died March 9, 2016 at age 73 under palliative care at INOVA Fairfax Hospital as a result of complications from a stroke. Clare was born in Washington, DC to the late Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm A. MacIntyre and survived by David A. Ross, her husband of 26 years, who is a Washington lawyer and retired Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserves, her sister Pamela MacIntyre and her husband Robert Sawrey, and nephews Duncan and Gordon MacIntyre, the sons of the late Bruce MacIntyre. During the 1970's and 1980's, Clare worked on Wall Street, initially at Drexel Burnham Lambert as its first female institutional salesman, and then at Citibank as an account officer in the International Services Division for Latin America. Previously, she was involved in the musical and song-writing career of the late Harry Chapin and is considered the inspiration for his 1972 song "Taxi." Very few people have a song written about them. Even fewer have songs that are part of the fabric of their lives as Taxi was to me, even to this day. I have often wondered who she was and what she was all about-especially when I sing this song when I hear it on the radio-which isn't very often. Now Clare takes her place in her eternal home with Harry and my curiosity is satisfied. May the Lord welcome Clare into heaven with a huge smile and a warm greeting, " well done good and faithful servant. "

Dear Clare, Your passing has solved a forty-six (46) year mystery of mine. In 1974 I was a resident at Daytop Village, Millbrook, NY. I became very close with Mr. Ed Markowski, who worked their at the facility for quite some time, but prior to that, he owned it when he called it Millbrook Manor Inn or B&B. Ed always told me the story of Harry Chapin (Harry as he referred to him) coming to the Manor on Friday nights, to sing, since according to Ed, had a fond interest in a gal from Bennett College. For all these years I've often wondered who this girl might have been. Now I know. Rest in Peace Clare, I wish I could have met you. And when you see Ed & Harry in Heaven, please pass along my regards. Sincerely, Tom Hafner

Although I didn't know her personally, she will be fondly remembered by fans of the late Harry Chapin every time we hear the words of his song "Taxi". Thank you so much for the inspiration, from Chapin fans worldwide.

This week-end I found a photo of Clair and I at a NYC society ball and was going to send her a copy. I first met Clair when she was in High School and I was delivering the Xmas mail when we both lived a block apart in Georgetown. I was very saddened read of her passing and my prayers and best wishes to her memory and to the others who knew and cared for her.

My deepest condolences to you David and all of Clare's family. I have lost a "lifeline" to my past, as we have known each other since I was a teen. I regret that our "chats" have been fewer in the last few years. R.I.P. Clarita. Your loss is great.

She was the muse to the most unique singer songwriter of our day, and her impact will always be felt; "through the too many miles and the too little smiles, I still remember you"

Dear Clare was my good friend at the University of the Pacific. She was down the hall from me in Ballintyne Hall...we both were transfers from women's colleges....I shortened her skirts and she bought me a map of the world and kept me up to date on the news of the world...we had some wonderful adventures together both on the West coast and the East coast. I am so sad to hear of her passing.
