CORINNE GREENBERG

GREENBERG--Corinne. Weill Cornell Medicine is profoundly saddened by the loss of our dear friend and longtime benefactor Corinne P. Greenberg. Corinne, together with her husband, Maurice R. Greenberg, a longstanding member of Weill Cornell Medicine's Board of Fellows, was an esteemed supporter of our institution for nearly 50 years, and one of the largest donors in its history. Through The Starr Foundation, where Corinne served as director and her husband as chair, the Greenbergs supported the institution in a variety of transformative ways across all missions, with a focus on the partnership between Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Their support enabled construction of the Belfer Research Building and the Weill Greenberg Center, as well as cancer research funding through the Starr Cancer Consortium and funding for pioneering stem- cell research through the Tri- Institutional Stem Cell Initiative. Bolstering their commitment to Weill Cornell Medicine's education mission, in 2019, The Starr Foundation provided critical leadership support for the expansion of our scholarship program, enabling debt-free medical education for all medical students who qualify for aid. Corinne served as a member of numerous committees at Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, including as a charter member of the Executive Committee of the Lying-In Hospital and membership on the NewYork Weill Cornell Council. Corinne and Hank also established the Maurice R. Greenberg Distinguished Service Award, the longest standing award in celebration of our medical center faculty. To date, 40 physicians and scientists have been honored for their excellence since its inception. In 2004, in honor of the couple's steadfast institutional support, the institution named its division of cardiology the Maurice R. and Corinne P. Greenberg Division of Cardiology. We will greatly miss Corinne's devotion to our institution and to medicine, her warmth, kindness, and generosity of spirit.
