D. DANIEL Obituary

DANIEL--D. Ronald. The students, faculty, and trustees of The Rockefeller University are deeply saddened by the death of our esteemed friend and Trustee Emeritus D. Ronald Daniel. Ron was a remarkable executive who brought uncommon talent and expertise to his roles on the Rockefeller board. During his long and storied career at McKinsey & Company, where he specialized in corporate strategy, development, and top management organization, Ron built a reputation as one of America's foremost management consultants. He joined McKinsey in 1957 and held a number of high-level positions at the firm, serving as a senior partner from 1968 to 1990 and as managing director from 1976 to 1988. Ron was introduced to The Rockefeller University by the late David Rockefeller and elected to our board in 1993. He became a Trustee Emeritus in 2005. During his many years of service at Rockefeller, which began with the administration of Nobel laureate Torsten Wiesel, Ron was a highly valued adviser to six successive university presidents. He was also a deeply engaged member of several board committees, including the Audit, Development, Finance & Operations, and Investment Committees. With his adored wife, Lise Scott, Ron was a frequent visitor to campus and a generous benefactor to major university initiatives, including the creation of the Collaborative Research Center and the construction of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation-David Rockefeller River Campus. Ron was a problem solver par excellence--his knowledge, experience, and wisdom were widely sought after by leaders in both the business and philanthropic sectors. We will remember Ron for his dedication to the university and his keen interest in the research under way in our laboratories. He will be greatly missed. We send our deepest sympathy to Lise; to Ron's three sons, David, Peter, and Stephen, and their families; and to the entire Daniel family. William Ford, Chair Russell Carson, Chair Emeritus Richard Salomon, Life Trustee Richard Lifton, President Torsten Wiesel, President Emeritus Marnie Imhoff, Senior Vice President
