DALE MARSHALL

MARSHALL--Dale Rogers, president emerita of Wheaton College in Massachusetts and champion of equity and academic inclusiveness, died on January 14 in Berkeley, CA, at age 83. Wheaton's sixth president (1992-2004) pushed to hire academics from under-represented groups, as she had at Wellesley as dean of the college (1986-1992) and acting president (1987-1988), and at University of California, Davis, as associate dean in the College of Letters and Science. Born in Ithaca, NY, she led Wheaton to great economic and academic expansion, and a deeper commitment to diversity and social justice. She earned a Bachelor's in government from Cornell University; Master's in political science from University of California, Berkeley; and Ph.D. from UCLA. She is survived by husband Donald; children Jessica, Cynthia and Clayton Marshall; and grandchildren William and Helena Belhumeur, and Maia, Dominik, Nina and Robert Marshall.
