DANIEL CAIN Obituary

CAIN--Daniel M. The Board and staff of Cain Brothers & Company mourn the death of our co-founder, Dan Cain. Dan was an original. He and our dear friend and mentor Jim Cain, with whom Dan founded our firm 35 years ago, had a vision which made Cain Brothers what it is today. Countless colleagues and clients have gained so much from him. He leaves a wonderful legacy, one which we will work every day to uphold, continue and make thrive. A generous benefactor to many organizations and educational institutions and a healthcare industry visionary, Dan was revered for his energy, commitment, passion, optimism and laughter. He filled every room he was in with creativity, intelligence and confidence. We celebrate his life and are so grateful to him. We extend our deepest sympathies to Kathy and Billy and the entire Cain clan.

I received a phone call from Columbia University Graduate School of Business about a possible 50th reunion of the Class of 1972. Dan was a member of that class and if the reunion is held, he will be sorely missed. I remember him as an upbeat, can-do, and lively graduate schoolmate. He helped organize some previous alumni get-togethers. He once loaned me his waterfront apartment in the Presidio section of San Francisco overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. God's blessing on him. Dan's laughter was contagious and his warmth genuine. We shared a passion for how hospitals operate and I always learned from spending time with him. Sorely missed and not forgotten.

Death is nothing at all- I have only slipped away into the next room. Whatever we were to each other that we are still. Call me by my old familiar name; speak to me in the easy way, which you always used to, laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, and pray for me. Let my name be the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without effort. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was; there is absolutely unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of your mind because I am out of your sight? I am but waiting for your, for an interval, somewhere very near just around the corner. All is well. Nothing has passed; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before only better, infinitely happier and forever-we will all be one together with Christ.

On behalf of the Richfield Springs NY Historical Association and Museum condolences are extended to the family.
Dan purchased farmlands in our region and even recognized our village museum with a generous contribution on behalf of one of the regions farmers. No doubt his circle of friends extended well beyond the society big names, He remembered the little guy.
