DANIEL MICHAELSON Obituary

MICHAELSON--Daniel Man, born April 19, 1944 in New York to the late Vera and Dr. Samuel Michaelson, died suddenly December 6, 2018 in Grafton, VT. Danny was a wonderful brother and uncle, an absolutely brilliant man, a college instructor, a mediator, a teacher of ballroom dancing, and he touched hearts, minds, and lives all over the world. He graduated from Jamaica High, Queens College, and Columbia University. Always the intrepid traveler, Danny had plans to visit his godson in Ghana in the spring. At Bennington College where he taught for over 30 years, Danny mentored and inspired countless students. Danny was real and valued that quality in others. Danny also co-founded Quantum Leap, an award-winning program for high school students at risk. Danny is survived by his brothers, Peter and David and David's partner, Sandy, his niece, Wendy and her partner, Scott, his nephew, Jeffry and his wife, Mary, his godsons, Dan and Leo, his cousin, Tony and his husband, Clayton, his cousin, Angela and her husband, Steve and their son, Steven, his cousin, Jean and her husband, Richard, and his cousin Roberta. Also surviving Danny are his special friends, Susan, Ted, Asya, Barbara, Duncan, Joe, Al, Lester, Henry, Eni, Liisa, Brenna, special students Simone, Ben, Marcos, Lori, Jessieh, Manny, and many other souls throughout New York, Grafton, Bennington, and the world. A celebration of Danny's life is planned in Bennington in the spring.
