My sister and I were saddened to read of the passing of Dave Berman. We were children of another Y&R executive, David Y.(Brad)Bradshaw, VP and Director of the TV/Radio department. He was at Y&R for 20 years.
Dave Berman always arranged the children's activities during family visiting day at Y&R. He was a wonderful, delightful, giving man, full of fun and humor, always underplayed. As little girls, my sister, Marilyn, and I loved "Mr. Berman". He was regularly a clown, he arranged for the kids to be "on TV" in the office, he would show us how to make origami, and would give us his creations, and often arranged other creative, fun activities for the bunch of visiting children.
Later, when we were old enough to come into NYC on our own, and visit our Dad at Y&R before he'd take us to lunch, our Dad would always walk us down to Mr. Berman's office to say hello. We loved visiting him. He was always warm, funny, and welcoming. It was special to see him, even as older teens. After my Dad retired when I was around 22, I missed visiting Y&R, and especially missed seeing Dave Berman. He truly made Y&R fun.
My Dad and he exchanged cards until my Dad's passing in 1980. I went in some 10 years later with my own two kids, (my daughter, Caryn, and son, who is named "David Bradshaw (Brad) Akin" for his grandfather), and saw Mr. Berman and 4-5 other friends of my Dad's. He was as gracious and warm to them as he had been to us as children.
He was truly a lovely, creative, unique and special man, and will live with delight in the minds of all who knew him.
Our deepest condolences to the Berman family.

Dave was the "go-to" guy at Y&R, when you wanted something impossible. He had such creative ideas and he was able to accomplish wondrous things - always with a smile and frequently presenting an origami bird as a calming influence. My best memories of this guy was the Y&R trip to Kenya and Tanzania in 1974 when Dave and his wonderful wife, Lois were the life of the party. He is gone, but never forgotten.
