GILMOUR--David Harrison. David Harrison Gilmour. Founder of FIJI WATER. David Harrison Gilmour was a Canadian born businessman and investor. David was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 1931, to Major Adam Harrison Gilmour and Doris Godson Godson Gilmour. The Gilmour Family moved from Winnipeg to Toronto in 1934, where David and his three older sisters received their education. Among David's accomplishments, he co- founded Clairtone, a stereo maker, with Hungarian-Canadian Peter Munk, in 1958. In 1969, the dynamic duo then bought property in Fiji and started the hotel chain called the Southern Pacific Hotel Corporation. Less than a decade later, they sold SPHC. David & Peter then founded TrizecHahn, a real estate firm and bought a gold mine in Northern Ontario, and subsequently co-founded Barrick Gold Corp, which went on to become the world's largest gold-mining company. David later bought the private island of Wakaya in Fiji. In 1990 David and his wife Jill, opened The Wakaya Club & Spa, a luxury resort. In 1996 David went on to found FIJI Water LLC, which in 2004 became the fastest-growing premium beverage company in the United States and a major contributor to philanthropic endeavors focused on education - both in Fiji, and later in the U.S., building several pre-K schools, directed towards at-risk children. In 2011 David Gilmour and his current business partner David M. Roth, established "Wakaya Perfection" - an organic nutrition company, specializing in producing ginger, turmeric and Kava - all grown in virgin volcanic soil, both in Fiji, Tonga and Nicaragua. His wife Jill (of almost 42 years) is a native of Auckland, New Zealand. David and Jill met in London in 1976, and married there in 1981. During their years together, the Gilmours spent time in New York, London, Paris, Aspen, The Bahamas and have resided in Palm Beach, Florida since 1994. On Sunday, June 11, 2023 David sadly passed away. His wishes were to have no funeral service - just "to go gently into the night".
