DAVID GIN Obituary

GIN--David Y. The staff of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center note with sadness the untimely death of our esteemed colleague David Y. Gin, a brilliant and talented chemist who joined the Sloan-Kettering Institute's Molecular Pharmacology and Chemistry Program in 2006. Dr. Gin was working at the nexus of synthetic chemistry, clinical trials, and research to develop new, safer, and more-potent immunological and therapeutic agents for cancer and infectious diseases. He was a gentle, kind, good-humored, and remarkable human being who will be sorely missed. We extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Mary; his children, Duncan and Laura; and his entire family. David and I were at Caltech as graduate students together and at Harvard as postdocs at the same time. I am so sad to hear this news. Dave had such a wonderful and rare combination of true brillance and pleasant personality. He will be missed by so many. I offer my condolences to Mary and their children.

David and I were contemporaries in Prof. E.J. Corey's laboratory at Harvard. He was a brilliant scientist whose work at the intersection of synthetic chemistry and cancer biology has touched the lives of many students, patients and colleagues. I will always remember him for his strong work ethic, creativity, kindness, sense of humor and passion for chemistry. My deepest condolences to the Gin family, especially Mary and the children. David's life was an inspiration to many, and I will always be grateful for his friendship.
