DAVID KENNY Obituary

KENNY--David.

David Culver Kenny, passed away on July 10, 2018. Dave was born on January 3, 1945 in Los Angeles, CA to Dr. James M. Kenny and Shirley Culver Kenny. He grew up in Redlands, CA where he was student body president of Redlands High School and a member of the football team that reached the state championship in 1962. He attended Stanford University and Stanford Law School, where he served as an editor of the Law Review. His studies were interrupted by the Vietnam War, and Dave spent his Army career as a Sergeant in Panama and Ecuador. He then returned to Stanford to complete his law degree and clerked in the Legal Advisor's Office of the U.S. State Department. He practiced international banking law for nearly 40 years as a partner with the San Francisco law firm of Squire Sanders. During his long career, Dave served as Chair of the San Francisco Bank Attorneys Association and was a member of the Financial Institutions Committee of the State Bar of California and of the California Bankers Association's State Governmental Relations Committee. He was also a member of the World Affairs Council of Northern California and of the International Diplomacy Council, and was a past president of the California Council for International Trade. He was very active in his community, and enjoyed coaching basketball at St. Vincent De Paul and serving as president of the Forest Hill Association. Dave was a bon vivant in the true San Francisco tradition, an outdoorsman and a lover of the arts. He will be missed by many who appreciated his humor, intellect and joie de vivre. He is survived by his children, Bergen Kenny Woodbury and Brendan James Kenny, his former spouse, Mary Nelson, his brother Patrick Kenny, his sister Linda Kenny (Sloan), his two beautiful grandchildren, Alexander John Woodbury and Mila Loreen Woodbury, and his longtime partner, Georgia Callahan. He resided in Alamo, CA with Georgia and their beloved golden retriever. In retirement they traveled extensively and enjoyed hiking with family and friends. Contributions in his memory can be made to the Marin Agricultural Land Trust.

Just thinking of Dave and the many wonderful experiences he shared with my late husband, Steve Potash, working on CCIT. And more. A good and generous friend. Georgina, you are in my thoughts as well.

I want to extend my condolences to the family and other friends of David. I came to know him at Stanford many years ago. He was an adventurer - running with the bulls in Pamplona - an accomplished lawyer and a bright and accomplished husband and father. He was a warm and loving human being and left us too soon.

My sincere condolences on the passing of Dave, who I knew through the California Council for International Trade. Dave was a lovely man who will be missed by many. At the CalChamber, we are now stewards of the CCIT - and I included the news in our e-trade newsletter: http://advocacy.calchamber.com/international/ccit/trade-update/. My thoughts are with Dave's family during this sad time. Susanne Stirling

We met David three years ago and got to know him as a friend. We had several wonderful dinners with David and Georgia, hearing about their incredible trips, stories about David's two children and his grandchildren.
We were fortunate enough to spent two fantastic vacations with David. One with Road Scholar hiking out of Page Arizona and the other trip to Morocco! David loved exploring the far corners of the world and loved the outdoors. He always surprised us with stories about his trips across the world. The most amazing adventure involved swimming alone down the Tuolumne River in Yosemite to escape a forest fire raging on both banks of the river.
David was a warm and sweet man who loved his family.
We will certainly cherish our many times together with living memories.

I am so sorry to hear this news. Dave was such a beautiful person, sharing his love of Stanford football with me, my wife, and little girl, inviting us to a Stanford-Cal game. My little girl was only three or so at the time, but she thoroughly enjoyed it and talked about it for weeks afterwards. We will always be grateful to have spent a little time with Dave and his family, and with Georgia, whom we have known for over twenty years.

I worked with Dave many years ago as an associate with Graham & James. He was a rare person who went out of his way to promote me to our clients and make me feel good about the work I did. Generous in heart, gentle in spirit and exacting in his work. Truly the best of all worlds.
