David was a true mensch, always armed with stories for every occasion! Our work together was rewarding & mutually respectful. I admired his dedication, knowledge & negotiating skills while valuing & protecting his clients´ gifts. Not forgettable & definitely irreplaceable. Ciao, DR ! CS

Dearest Margo and Jon,
I'm sending my love and sincere condolences for your loss.
As you recall, I worked for David for a number of years. I came across the news of his passing and am feeling a bit 'in shock', as David wasn't someone who was easily forgettable. With New York slightly accenting his voice, I can clearly hear: "Carrie? David. Sorry to bother you at home, but can you tell me where the letter to Sony is?" No problem, David, it's three from the top in my inbox." "Thanks. See you tomorrow." Why does it seem like yesterday?
The legal language and lengthy details to benefit and protect his songwriters' best interests came first with David. But he found daily joy in virtually every genre of music as he nurtured the precious work of songwriters.
I remember David as a true gentleman and of course, a great storyteller. He also generously included those of us in the office when listening to a new demo he was excited about (he would want me to clarify that I'm not speaking of 'unsolicited' material!). Bicycle felt like family.
He impressed upon me the importance of taking the utmost care when communicating words and of course, spelling and grammar. I still find it hard to accept the carelessness of a typical text. Yes, David was the influence behind my saying: "Perfection is highly underrated!" I will, however, refrain from further comments about perfection at this time.
I do hope he was able to enjoy time with his granddaughters and they with him. Time passes really quickly when children are involved!
I'll end this as David would have: Best regards,
Carrie Steele

I knew David in NYC when I was producing records back in the "Go Go 60's". David really stood out from the crowd as a warm sincere man who not only had a great ear for music but a real gift for encouraging up and coming artists and writers. If you had the chance to work with David you felt like you had a friend. That's why fifty years later people still remember David. He was one of the special people.
