DAVID SCHULZ Obituary

SCHULZ--David Paul, born October 14, 1944, of Middletown, CT passed away after an illness on July 18, 2024. He was an artist, veteran, set designer, political activist, and beloved father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend. Born in San Francisco, the second of four children, he found a passion for art at a young age. In college he met Carol Schultz of New York City, who became his wife of more than 50 years. After serving in Vietnam, moving to NYC, and traveling Europe, they settled in Middletown, CT where they raised three children and became fixtures of the community. Predeceased by his wife, he is survived by his younger siblings, three children, and two grandchildren.

Remembering my brother on what would have been his 80th birthday. He and Carol made an amazing life together, and we are so grateful to have shared laughter, food, some political debate and, always, love, with them and their children and their friends. We greatly miss David's creative energy, humor and caring for others.

As a neighbor who passed the Schultz home every day, I watched with eager anticipation for David´s signs which were really editorials. I managed to take a few photographs during one of the elections. I want his family to know how much I, and many others, marveled at his wit and precision targeting of our political players. If it´s possible, I urge them to try to publish the text of the signs.
Finally, I must tell you how much we all miss David´s presence in our neighborhood.

Dave welcomed me into the Xerox art department and we became good friends enjoying many afternoons of softball, kickball, and volleyball after work and evenings at the local pubs. He was a great designer but even better illustrator and when he decided to chase that passion I knew he would be successful. I like others eagerly awaited his latest road sign, filled with truth and humor. He never compromised his ideals and was always straight with his opinions. I will miss him as a true artist and as a friend.

My deepest condolences to the family. I had the pleasure of working with Dave at Xerox, and then meeting up with Carol and Dave on their walks with their dogs. Dave was so talented, and I too couldn't wait for the signs.

My condolences to the family of Dave Schulz. I worked with him years ago at Weekly Reader. I enjoyed his political lawn art over the years. May he rest in peace.
