DAVID WEISGAL

WEISGAL--David, passed on December 23, 2009 after a lengthy illness. Born May 27, 1932 in Toronto, Canada his father, Meyer Weisgal, founded the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovoth, Israel. David was a graduate of Columbia Grammar and Brandeis University where he earned a degree in Political Science. After serving in Germany as a Specialist First Class in the U.S. Army he continued his father's vision as head of fundraising in the New York offices of the Weizmann Institute. In 1975 he and his wife, the former Florence Brooks-Dunay, purchased and transformed a 33 room mansion into what the New York Times referred to as "the most romantic inn in the Berkshires" called "Wheatleigh". In 1980 Wheatleigh was sold and they moved to Palm Beach. David is survived by his son Benjamin of New York City and Benjamin's two children, Bryan and Leah, Jonathan of Los Angeles, his step-children, Peter Dunay of Connecticut, Stefanie, Nicholas, Edward Brooks, his step-daughter-in-law, Sarah and his step-granddaughter, Samantha, his sister Helen Amir of Tel Aviv, his brother Michael Wager of New York City as well as by his wife who can not imagine life without the warmth of his love and who thanks him for illuminating her life and making her world such as a happy place.
