CARTER--Dixie. We deeply mourn the loss of an extraordinary and gifted woman. A beautiful and talented actress and singer who had the unique capacity to powerfully affect all who knew her. A fiercely devoted mother to Ginna and Mary Dixie - they were the center of her life. The beloved wife of Hal Holbrook. Kind and generous always to her friends and family. Her strength of spirit and joy, her exuberant charisma, and her powerful presence will be missed forever. Linda and Arthur

I, like many,
remember Dixie Carter as Julia Sugarbaker on Designing Women. From the first I was captivated by her style and class. I liked to believe that I was like Julia, and also aspired to be like her. After reading Ms Carter's "Trying to Get to Heaven" I was surprised to find that I wanted to be more like Dixie. I hope always to aspire to her style, her class, and her humanity. She will be missed, but always with us. DM

To Dixie’s Family,
Thank you very much for sharing your loved one with all of us her Fan’s. She was a truly gracious and talented woman that brought class and dignity to all of her acting roles. When a person has charisma and personality like she exuded its very difficult not to fall a little in love with them, remember always Dixie was loved.
I find much comfort and solace from the Bibles promise at John 5:28,29 and I hope it brings comfort to you also; Do not marvel at this because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.
She will be missed…
Monica ~John 3:17

No one had to ask "Dixie Who." We all knew. What a wonderful lady she was. I loved her as "Julia" and "Christy's Mom" in the Christy series. She could LIGHT up a room. She was a REAL lady, elegant and so SWEET and her voice was the "Singing of the Angels" as I'm sure GOD has her in HIS Heavenly Chorus. My BEST to Mr. Hal Holbrook who loved her very much and will miss her so much. We pray he will stay strong for Dixie's sake. There will not be another "DIXIE CARTER." She IS missed!

Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

My prayers goes out to the loss of a wife, and mother. She was a true Tennessee Southern Belle. I know I too live in Tennessee and I know what the south is like. She was so good on Designing Women. She had class, she was very good at anything she said and all the words on the one show at the end when she finally hit and said 'THAT'S WHEN THE LIGHTS WENT OUT IN GEORGIA" I never laughed so much. Such a very lovely southern lady. Very classy I love the show sometimes it is on and I watch it when it is. I know you will miss her so much. My thoughts and prayers go out to you all. God Bless you all for the loss she was for sure one of a kind. Dixie, you will be missed. From one Southern Woman in Tennessee to another.
