Rita Greene Obituary

Rita M. (Liburdi) Greene of Braintree, died peacefully on Friday, July 30, 2021, at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. She was 92. Born in Boston on July 11, 1929, she was raised in Roxbury and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Philomena (Leopardi) Liburdi. Rita attended local schools and graduated from Dearborn Academy with the Class of 1947. Following high school, Rita worked in data entry before starting her family. Rita and her husband, John, married on September 29, 1956, and together they raised their family with love and devotion. After Rita's children were grown, she returned to the workforce performing data entry for Bradlees, where she worked for over 20 years. Rita retired in 1999, to spend more time with her grandchildren. In her spare time, Rita loved to read. She liked many different genres, but her favorites were romance and mystery novels by Mary Alice Monroe and Janet Evanovich. Rita also enjoyed playing card games with her aunt Gin, as well as playing Yahtzee and Pokeno. Rita always looked forward to her summer vacations in New Jersey to visit with her sister. Rita was a generous and selfless person. She donated to many charities on a consistent basis and loved going through the mailing the charities sent her. A woman of great faith, she never had a bad thing to say about anyone she met and always made it a priority to pray for others. She always had a worry free, happy attitude. Rita was the beloved wife of the late John E. Greene, who died in 1995. Together they shared 39 loving years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of John E. Greene and his wife Robin of FL, Robert J. Greene of Pembroke, Michael F. Greene and his wife Josie of NH, Patricia A. Greene of Braintree, Richard S. Greene and his wife Joanne of Plymouth, and Paul D. Greene and his wife Chrissy of Rockland. Rita was the loving grandmother of eight and the loving great-grandmother of four. She was the dear sister of the late Joseph Liburdi, the late Mary Wells, and the late Butch Liburdi. She is also survived by her dear sister-in-law, Nancy Higgins of FL, and many loving nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday, August 5, 2021, 4-8 pm in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., Quincy. A celebration of life service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 am on Friday, August 6, 2021, prior to the funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church in Weymouth at 10:30 am. Services will conclude with interment in Braintree Cemetery, Braintree. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rita may be sent to the charity of your choice.
