DONALD MEYERS Obituary
A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, he was a vocal coach for the operatic and musical comedy repertoire in NYC. As Guy Lombardo's choral director, he participated in the preparation of the now legendary series of musical comedy performances at the Marine Theater at Jones Beach, Long Island, NY. Many of Mr. Meyers' singers appeared at The Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera and opera houses throughout Europe.
Mr. Meyers also staged operas for The Lyritas Performers, which include productions of "Faust", "Carmen" and "Il Tabarro". His English adaptations of operas include "The Girl of the Golden West", "Sister Angelica", "Il Tabarro", "La Serva Padrona" and Massenet's "Manon" and have included performances at Memphis State University, Manhattan School of Music and The Lyritas Performers. Most recently, Mr. Meyers' English adaptation of Wagner's "Tristan and Isolda" was presented in New York City. In May 1997 the collaborative work of "The Spoon River Anthology" based on Edgar Lee Masters book was presented at the Dogwood Festival in Dogawiac Michigan. Lucas Mason composed the music, Donald Meyers directed the production and William Skoog conducted the orchestra.
He is survived by his wife Gretchen Steiner, his sister Nirma and her daughters, Felice and Margo.

Knowing this is rather late, I would like to offer my condolences to Gretchen upon hearing about Don's passing. I will always remember Don as a very talented musician and a man of great humor.

To the Meyers Family: My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.
