DORIS SCHWARTZ Obituary

SCHWARTZ--Doris. Doris Schwartz died quietly in her home on April 6, 2025 at the age of 102. Born in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Mollie and William Jones, she lived most of her life in Manhattan, an enthusiastic New Yorker but also an enthusiastic world traveler. She received an MA in music composition from Columbia and was on her way to a career as a pianist and composer, when she met a flight surgeon returning after 5 1/2 years in the war, married, had a child and ended up managing her husband's internal medicine practice until she retired. After her husband's death and 60 years of marriage, she moved to the Boston area to be closer to family and, in Lasell Village, became part of a whole new community of friends and, with her characteristic energy and determination, discovered her skill and love of drawing. A loving and devoted great-grandmother and matriarch in the larger extended family, she is survived by her son Richard and her daughter-in-law Jacqueline Olds, her grandchildren Nate and Sarah, and her great-grandchildren Oren, Adella, Asher, and Maya. Donations in her name may be made to the Perkins School for the Blind, 175 North Beacon St., Watertown MA 02472.
