Dorothy Robinson Obituary

ROBINSON--Dorothy Fay. On December 2nd, 2008, died peacefully at home after a long battle with cancer and Parkinson's disease which she fought with exceptional grace and courage. The daughter of Dorothy Mein Fay and Charles Fay, Dorothy was born in 1937 in San Francisco, CA. After graduating from the Garrison Forest School, Dorothy worked in the office of Vice President Richard Nixon in Washington, D.C. before coming to New York where she was a contributing editor of the magazine Art Voices. Later she was a founding member of the junior committee of Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital and was the events coordinator at the Natural Resources Defense Council for nearly 10 years. She had a lifelong interest in photography, started a Monday night cooking school for men, volunteered in the soup kitchen of the Church of Heavenly Rest and created a successful line of costume jewelry. But of all her accomplishments Dorothy's unique ability for friendship is what she will best be remembered for. Her charm, humor, loyalty and affection both in person and over the telephone endeared her to everyone who knew her. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her children, Gardner and Victoria; her sisters, Frances Bowes and Victoria Leonard; and three beloved grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Church of Heavenly Rest in New York at 3:30 on December 17th. Another service will take place in San Francisco in February. Donations in her memory may be made to National Resources Defense Council or The Parkinson's Stem Cell Research Fund at UCSF. 415-476-3953.
