EDITH MACGUIRE Obituary

MacGUIRE--Edith,

passed away peacefully at home in NYC on August 23 after a slow decline of many years. She was a lover of literature, language, gardening, birds, and the beach. She gave generously and faithfully to a large number causes close to her heart, including human rights, animal rights, and land preservation. She felt a moral duty to share her good fortune to promote a more humane society. She was a proud Democrat. To the delight and amusement of those who knew her, she had a song for every occasion. She gave much of herself to so many, both young and old, who considered her a friend and confidante, as well as a surrogate mother. She will be grievously missed by all whose lives she touched. Edie is survived by her three children, Cordier MacGuire, Mary Haven MacGuire, and Deirdre MacGuire, and by her grandson, William MacGuire. Donations in her name can be sent to The Southern Poverty Law Center, www.splcenter.org and The Nature Conservancy www.nature.org A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 4pm.
