Edith Weiss Obituary

1924 - 2017
Those who have met her know she was a fiery and vivacious Brooklyn girl, funny, whip-smart and always entertaining. Even at 93, she was sharp as a tack, she loved watching Jon Stewart and Colbert, listening to classical music or Sinatra, dancing with the energy of a much younger woman. Her chicken matzah ball soup and kasha varnishkes were legendary, and she also made delicious cheesecakes, which she herself never tasted because she hated eating cheese or butter (but still loved ice cream). She loved Chinese food, foccacia pizza, Mallomars, and we were able to share many happy lunches, dinners, and desserts. For breakfast she would make everyone French toast and eggs, even at 93. I talked to her right before it happened and she said she could still taste the bagels and lox I sent her for her birthday. Most importantly she was a selfless and empathetic woman, a loving grandmother, mother, aunt, friend, neighbor, and brightened the lives of everyone she met. She lived through the Great Depression and was full of wisdom and stories. We are fortunate to have spent the time with her that we have, and while I wish we could have had more time with her, she outlived her beloved husband Hyman by almost 20 years and many of her close friends. There are no more devoted daughters than Janet Weiss Ludevig and son-in-laws Yuri Ludevig who took care of her closely for many years. We love you and miss you still, your grandchildren, Evan Fader, Eileen Blancas, and Andrew Fader.

Janet Ludevig

One of my great memories of my Mom was the times that she spent with her Grandsons Andrew and Evan. They played ping pong, scrabble, watched shows, went to the theater and live shows, and just hung out. They were the most devoted Grandsons I have ever seen. They loved her and protected her. Their relationships were so beautiful and unique. I am very proud of how they cared for her. I never had to ask. It was just pure love.

A day does not go by that I don't think of my best friend and miss her. I am so very grateful to have had her as long as we did. I am always full of my wonderful memories of our fantastic mega laughing sessions, her spectacular food, her amazing energy and upbeat life views, her great wisdoms and advice, and most of all of all the selfless love she showed every day for me, Yuri, and her most cherished grandchildren, Andrew, Evan and Eileen. She was a Nana that surpassed any I have ever met. She will forever be in my heart.
