I just found out, 4 years late, about Edmund's death. I knew him as a student at Kneisel Hall. He was a phenomenal reader and helped me learn the Leonard Bernstein Serenade, sight--reading the accompaniment. I was a violin student of Joseph Fuchs, and Kneisel Hall was my first faculty appointment. I performed the Bernstein a year later, and I was greatly indebted to Edmund for his help.

I was listening to Eddy's recordings in my car, and was reminded of his wonderful musicianship and warmth. I went on YouTube and discovered he had died. I shared his apartment in Riverside Drive when was at Juilliard, he was constantly practising on that Grand he had in his bedroom. Juilliard memories for me are linked forever in my mind with our dear friend. I'll always remember him with affection and admiration

All my heart, love, and deepest condolences go out to all of Eddy's loved ones during this time of immense sorrow and deep sadness. My heart just languishes with profound anguish over the loss of my teacher, mentor, and dear friend Edmund Battersby. I especially want to share with Justine & Julian that, to me (and I know others will agree), your father was such an extraordinary human being in every way -- so warm, loving and giving with everyone he met along his path. His spirit moved me in ways I cannot express. He was more than just a teacher to me: he was my friend and a confidante. (I know you both don't remember me, but I actually knew you when you were toddlers, and your father absolutely adored you both.) I recently wrote a piano composition, a Meditation, especially for your father, and I dedicated the piece to him. It was written as an homage to one of his favorite composers, Sergei Rachmaninoff. I was going to surprise him and present it to him this year as a special gift -- and I'm sure he would've enjoyed it as well. Sadly, he never got to hear it. But I'll try to play it for him now -- while he enjoys it in heaven.

I remember riding bikes with Sally Davis and finding ways to go past the family home to hear Trenton's Eddy playing at length. I also remember birthday cake over the Kennedy pool fence because John and I share a birthday. His music was truly a light to the world. It may he dimmed but will always be remembered. God bless the Battersbys in their loss.

My condolences on your loss. Edmund, like the psalmist, made music with his "whole being" (Psalms 108:1). We can look forward to God's promise to hear Edmund's music again.
