EDWARD ALBEE Obituary
Edward Albee was justifiably revered as one of America's most provocative and fiercely witty playwrights, but he was an equally ferocious advocate for his fellow writers. During his fifty-one years of service as a member of the Dramatists Guild Council, Edward fought to protect the rights of playwrights in rehearsal halls, academia, and the Library of Congress. Those of us fortunate enough to serve with him during his long tenure will miss his wisdom, his mordant humor, his stringency, and his passion. He was as committed to protecting literary works as he was to creating them, and for that we are forever grateful. Doug Wright President, Dramatists Guild of America

I enjoyed meeting you, Horton Foote and Marian Seldes in Valdez, Alaska in June 2000. Your lectures were very inspirational and gave us insight on what playwriting and theatre was all about. You will be missed.

Dear Mr. Albee, thank you for inspiring my own lifelong career in the theatre. As a teenager, I discovered through your magnificent plays that theatre could be brutally funny, as well as, desperately sad and always sharp and insightful as you probed the deepest recesses of the American psyche.
