EDWARD EPSTEIN Obituary

EPSTEIN--Edward Jay. With deep sadness, the family of Edward Jay Epstein announces his passing on January 9, 2024, at the age of 88. Brilliant, energetic, and intellectually passionate through his final days, he died peacefully at home after a brief struggle with Covid. Ed was an award-winning investigative journalist, renowned for his ground- breaking work covering topics ranging from the Kennedy assassination to the diamond industry to the business of Hollywood. After completing his undergraduate and master's degrees in government at Cornell, Ed earned his Ph.D. from Harvard in Urban Studies. His master's thesis resulted in the publication of Inquest, the first of over 20 books he authored. Throughout his life, Ed built an astounding network of dear friends who were a major focus of his life, partners in long meals marked by dynamic discussions and generous efforts to help all those around him. Ed was a devoted son to Betty O. Epstein, and proud patron of her artwork, which adorns his apartment. He was a loving brother to Linda Nessel and an inspirational and supportive uncle to her five children. The family will hold a private funeral, with a celebration of Ed's life to be scheduled shortly.
