Everyone mentions Aunt Eleanor´s laugh and smile.

But that is just how distinct they both were...deep, loud, long, frequent and contagious.

You would find yourself laughing along, even if you didn´t know what was so funny.

And underneath that was a kind and loving spirit.

I have many memories of fun times and the joy of simply being with the Meehan family...Aunt Eleanor, Uncle Bernie, Dawn, and Colleen.

Forever grateful for our time together and forever alive in my heart.

Love,
Pj

To Our Nanny
March 23, 1940-
Sept. 22, 2022

If flowers grow in Heaven, Lord,
Please pick a bunch for me.
Place them in my Nanny's arms
And tell her they're from me.
Tell her that I love and miss her
And when she turns to smile,
Place a kiss upon her cheek
And hold her for a while.
Remembering her is easy,
I do it every day.
But there's and ache within my heart
That will never go away.

Memories and lessons,
Like soil to a plant
You'll never be forgotten,
Like a picturesque Rembrandt.
Your kindness and your love
Continues to live on,
For the seeds that you have planted
Blossom though you're gone.
The wisdom and compassion
You've bestowed upon us all
Are the roots beneath the soil
And an anchor in a squall
Like the flowers is the garden
We are proof in living flesh
That your legacy lives on in us
A familial unit you've helped enmesh

Love Always,
Colleen & Timothy Riley

In the movie "Rocky", Pauly, Rocky´s brother-in-law asks Rocky, "What do you see in Adriene?" Rocky answered "Gaps". Pauly asked, "What do you mean, gaps?". Rocky responded, "She´s got gaps, I got gaps...we fill each other´s gaps."
I was very young when I met Aunt Eleanor and even younger when I met Uncle Bernie.
But, my perspective, being a little kid, was that Uncle Bernie was fun-loving and easy going. My thoughts on Aunt Eleanor were that she was a hard-working nurse and stern. Oh, she probably told us to wash up before supper or something which made me think, `stern´.
But, over the years, I think they filled each other´s gaps. In time, Uncle Bernie was hard working (not that he was not before, but I was too young to know what he was doing) and Aunt Eleanor definitely became fun loving. That laugh. You can probably hear it in your head right now.
In retrospect, I don´t know why I ever thought of Aunt Eleanor as stern. In thinking back there were all those summers in Beach Haven. Uncle Bernie would take us out on the little rental row boats and make fun of how my Mom would wrap our sodas in foil to keep them cool. Yeah...he was probably right-foil does not keep a can of Coke cool, but she meant well. AND, what were we doing drinking sodas for breakfast?! You see Uncle Bernie said we had to be up and ready by 5am! But, I digress. Anyway, we would catch fish and Aunt Eleanor would coat them in corn flakes and fry them up. They were delicious. I am sure it was the first time we ever had fish!
And, we´d ride our bikes to their house to visit and they´d ride their bikes to our house to visit. Uncle Richie and Aunty Suzie were often there as well. I remember laying in my bed at night and hearing everyone laughing on the porch. I felt love there; safe and secure with my extended family.
When my mother was going through difficult times, Aunt Eleanor would call me and ask what meds she was on and recommend questions I should ask the doctors.
When my Dad was in the hospital for bypass and I asked the doctor why they were giving an intrusive test, Aunt Eleanor had my back and told the doctor it was not necessary.
Aunt Eleanor remembered the kids´ birthdays every year and sent them cards and gifts. I remember one Easter she came over and played baseball with them. It was fun watching her run to the tree before Dani and Carolyn caught her....I think she let them catch her!
I am so sad she is gone. I hear her voice and laugh in my head. I think back to all the happy times we shared. I will miss her terribly. And, I know the grief that Uncle Bernie and the Bigg´s family must feel and I pray that your faith, friends and family help you through it. God bless Aunt Eleanor. Again, I will miss her terribly. Love, Chris

Dear Bernie, Dawn and Family,
It was such sad news hearing of the passing of Eleanor as it was to all of us who were blessed by her presence. She was a true delight whom we remember with her brilliant and ever present smile along with her delightful laugh.
With our deepest sympathy,
Roger and Marie
