ELEANOR STIER Obituary

STIER--Eleanor, 88, died December 18 at home in Greenwich Village, where she resided more than 55 years. Born in Mount Vernon, NY she earned a BS cum laude at Columbia University and an MSW at Columbia's School of Social Work. An education policy analyst, she worked for 26 years at the Community Service Society and was a charter member of the Educational Priorities Panel, which monitored the NYC Board of Education's spending practices and helped reallocate funds from administration into classroom services. She was the longtime co-chair of the Education Committee of the Women's City Club of NY, which honored her contributions in May 2013. Predeceased by her brothers, Sidney and Joseph L. Stier, and her lifetime partner, Barbara Reach. Survived by her beloved niece and nephew, Audrey Adams-Doppelt (Neil) and Lawrence Stier (Ritann); adored great-nieces, Dr. Sarah Steinberg (Peter) and Dr. Rachel Adams; cherished great-great-nephews, Charles and Henry Steinberg; and many friends.
