ELEANORE STENDIG Obituary

STENDIG--Eleanore, 93, died peacefully in her home, after a long illness on August 18, 2012. A lovely and elegant woman, served as a volunteer during WWII moving wounded servicemen from ship to hospital. Eleanore was an executive officer for her husband's company - Stendig, Inc. a leader in importing mid century modern contract furniture to the USA. Eleanore was one of the original founders of Designer Saturday, at that time, a small group of companies interested in promoting modern design. A lifetime member of Hadassah, Eleanore was a contributor to the UJA - Federation of New York and along with her husband Charles, established a series of scholarships through Thanks to Scandanavia - a fund enabling Scandanvian students to study design in the USA. Eleanore is survived by her husband of 56 years, Charles Stendig, and her sister Estelle Silver. Mr. Stendig wishes to thank her care givers for their kindness and devotion: Midge, Doreen, Jocelyn, Birdie and Bernadette.
