ELISABETH COLEMAN Obituary

COLEMAN--Elisabeth. As VP of international public affairs at American Express for 14 years, Elisabeth was a strong, tireless leader whose global sensitivities (and finesse) set the standard. As a dear friend, she was compassionate, generous and funny, with a warm, winning smile and infectious laugh. Her style, grace and embrace of life inspired us and we miss her terribly. I´m awed and saddened finding this. Lala stayed with me when my father was dying. She was my older Heroine. I loved staying at her house, up in her room, riding horses, renaming them and her father and Jack Sprat. I loved a horse that had been hers, Susie. This was a joyous episode, lasting several years, of which she was a part. Her mother helped me overcome my fear from a previous horse accident where I nearly died. I send Love to Frannie & Jack and thank them for sharing their family and all the creative irritations Betsy and I smilingly bestowed.

Dear Elisabeth, you were my wonderful, beloved friend for so many years. You were also my first female boss and such an inspiration! Thank you for shaping me and showing me the way! I will always love you and miss you.

I knew Lala during her LA years. Her memory brings a warm (and slightly mischievous) smile to my lips. God bless her.

I shall dearly miss my next-door neighbor, always smiling, suprising, improvising, creating, and innovating. She was a joy to behold. My deepest sympathy to all of her family and friends.

So pure. So intelligent. And how fabulous that she helped Newsweek elevate women in the early '70s. Quite a career. She is sorely missed.
