Mrs. Diesenhof believed in her students more than many of us believed in ourselves at that time in life. I now work in a JrK-12 school setting, and see everyday the impact a caring and tuned-in teacher can have on a student - well into the future. I am sharing this letter that Mrs. Diesenhof wrote me - in 1980! - as an example of that. I treasure it still, and wanted her friends and family to know that she is remembered fondly and gratefully by so many of her former students. Thank you for sharing her with us!

Mrs. Diesenhof was one of my favorite teachers at RHS. She was a great teacher with high standards who also knew how to make her class fun and interesting. She had a gift of knowing your potential, helping you realize what you were capable of, and expecting you to push yourself to help your achieve it. Ken, your mom was a gifted lady with a great sense of humor. She will surely be deeply missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I still remember what Mrs. Diesenhof wrote in my RHS yearbook. She had an ability to encourage your strengths, see through your weaknesses, poke fun at your faults and encourage you to do your best. I enjoyed her class, I enjoyed her. I can't imagine how many lives she must have touched in this way. God Speed.

Dear Diesenhof Family,
I offer my condolences on the passing of Ellen. What a wonderful and talented lady Mrs D. was! She was a significant role model for me; in fact, she inspired me to continue studying, learning, and writing. She was an exceptional teacher and she made a significant positive impact on me and on so many of her students. I am fortunate to have known her and will always remember her fondly.

Ken and Mike,
Your mom was one of my favorite teachers. The funny thing is, is that I was just thinking of her last week. I don't know what brought her to my mind, but I spent a little time remembering her and all she gave to her students. Loved her laugh and smile. Even though I haven't seen her in 15+ years, I will miss her.
Blessings,

Mrs. Diesenhof, as I knew her at RHS, is one of my most cherished teachers. I think of her often - her passion, her sense of humor, her relentless standards and, mostly, her ability to cut right down to it. My thoughts and prayers are with Ellen's family and friends. I am sorry for your loss.

To those of us left behind...
I was privileged to know Mrs. Diesenhof via an english comp class that she taught at RRCC. She showed me that english can be entertaining, a feat not accomplished before. She will be sorely missed, and I'm deeply grateful I was blessed to know her, if only for a short time.

I was privileged to know Ellen. She was a loving mother and wife who adored her family. Ellen was also a brilliant and compassionate teacher who inspired her students to maximize their potential. She had that rare gift that created the confidence in her students to be willing to share their thoughts through the written word. Her students were challenged to improve. Ellen had a special way of connecting with all her "kids". Ellen was never a shrinking violet but rather a dedicated pro who battled for what was right.
I cherish many fond memories as a colleague and friend of Ellen.

For those left here on Earth,
I would just like to express my condolences to you all. Mrs. D was a teacher of mine at school and was by far the most loved and enjoyed of anyone there. She had a zest for life unknown by most and would jump at the chance to help someone in need. Thank you for sharing her with all of us. She will be missed.
