Ellen and I were roommates in Los Altos in 1969 to 1970 while she was going to Stanford and I was just starting my career in photography. She provided me with much needed support as I began my professional career for which I have always been grateful. I am most saddened to learn of her passing.

Ellen was a wise, wonderful, humorous close friend from the time I met her in 1970 when we were interns at the U.S. Information Agency that summer,
and we remained friends for the rest of her life. She also gave me and my family comfort when we ourselves were attempting to manage circumstances similar her own illness. Like so many others, we have been so blessed to have had her in our lives.

Dear David,
Thank you for your message to me about my post here. Ellen was such a vibrant person and I count myself so lucky to have known her. Our Intern time and after was such a happy time - we were young and had endless parties, happy hours, potluck dinners and trips to a rented beach house on the Delaware shore! I remember that time and the gifted friends I made like Ellen with such fondness, and remain in touch with many of the Interns today. When I shared Ellen's obituary with them many thanked me as they had not seen it and remembered her. I know how hard it is to lose a parent, and hope you hold in your heart the joy of having such a special Mom. All the best to you and your brother/family.

I knew Ellen in the 70's when she and I were Summer Interns at the USIA. Our group of interns was a lively and very social one and Ellen was always right at the front! I am so sorry for this late message - I did not know she had left us and was so saddened to hear of her passing. She was a ball of fun, giving, joyful and supportive. I still have favorite ice cream pie recipe from one Ellen made and brought to a dinner we had then. I am not surprised she had such a full life with a brilliant career and loving family - even then, we knew she was a leader and would blaze new trails. Hope this message lets family and friends know she has been in my heart and memory all these years as a wonderful spirit who graced my life. Gone too soon.

Ellen, you are deeply missed. You were one of the most gracious human beings I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I only wish we all had more time with you, and you had more time with those whom you loved most. Each time I was with you, you made me feel better and brighter - I learned from you and was inspired by you. I love you very much. xoxox With prayers and deepest sympathy to your loving family, Wendy

As a tax lawyer at Brown & Wood/Sidley Austin specializing in mutual funds from 1993-2006, I had the pleasure of working with Ellen for many years. She was one of my favorite people to work with..smart, kind, always up for a lively conversation about a book we had both read, an interesting movie or great dance performance. She had a quality of being so elegant yet down-to-earth and immediate. I am truly sorry to hear of her passing and grateful I had the chance to know her.
