Eric was a high school classmate. He was a gentle giant and a truly nice person. I haven't seen him since graduation day, but I have no doubt that his memory will be a blessing to all who knew him. I know it will be for me.

I knew Eric for only a little over a year. However, when I think about knowing him, I think of what an honor it actually was. He was very to the point, in fact, when I would explain to people the type of man he was I would chuckle because he gave me the most entertaining job interview I have ever had. Then he hired me on for his firm. I learned alot from him, he was dedicated to his work, and his profession, really honest, caring, and I learned that, I could have taken anything to him for support, and knew I would get it from him. This truley is a wonderful man the world has lost,my heart goes out to the Berman family your in my thoughts and prayers.

I first met Eric 7 years ago. Eric was an imposing man both physically and intellectually. Straight forward and to the point, almost to a fault at times, he was always there and very loyal to those he cared for. I got to know him well since then. He was a great mentor to me and I consider it a great honor to have later been considered his friend.
My heartfelt thoughts to the Berman family.

I am deeply saddened by news of the passing of my teacher, lawyer and great friend, Eric Berman. He was a giant of a man with an even bigger heart. He touched my life in so many ways and I will miss him greatly.
I first met "Mr. Berman" as a music student at Oceanside HS. I was an advanced player and a bit bored by the usual high school band classes. Mr. Berman ran the electronic music studio, which became my oasis where I spent many incredible hours learning, recording, listening to and talking about music.....and life.
He was the kind of teacher who took a real interest in his students, and he gave me an incredible amount of encouragement. He helped me get scholarships to Hofstra University, and is one of the inspirational people I've been blessed to meet in my lifetime. I had the good fortune of having many great teachers, but Eric was one of the ones who gave me the courage to pursue my dreams. How can you ever thank a man adequately for that? I never could.
At 46, I still play the Selmer Mark IV tenor saxophone that he helped me buy. This is the Cadillac of saxophones and he knew I craved one. He found out that another teacher had one to sell and helped convince her to sell it to me at a price I could afford (namely...really cheap), because "I was going to go on to great things with it."
He felt more like a friend than teacher, and I was so happy that we kept in contact after I graduated and he went on to other things. I next met up with Eric after he had completed the Herculean task of passing the bar after years of being a teacher. I didn't think twice about having him represent me in a contractual matter when I needed him to negotiate on my behalf. He helped me with my first music industry contract with a band. He never charged me what his time and talent was worth. In fact, I think I took him to lunch and gave him a box set of classical vinyl records as his fee!
The next time I needed him was a few years ago when a much more serious legal matter needed attention. Again he represented me and wound up resolving a situation that could have been quite serious and expensive. I paid him, but again not nearly what his work was worth.
I'm feeling sad and guilty that I hadn't spoken to him in the few years since. I had no idea that he was sick, and had I known I would certainly have wanted to make sure he understood how much he meant to me and how much I loved him. I hope that wherever he is now, he somehow knows.
I've been truly blessed to have known Eric and to have been the recipient of the many great gifts he bestowed upon my life. Rest in peace, and may peace be upon all of the family and friends who loved him.
