I worked at Civic Drugs in Dearborn for eight years starting in the late '70s. In those days, Mr. Applebaum would come into the store and greet the employees by name, which made quite an impression on me, early in my career. The smile in his more recent pictures is exactly that same warm smile I remember from nearly 40 years ago. Rest in peace, sir.
