EUGENE PUGATCH Obituary

PUGATCH-- Eugene M.J., M.D., died January 5, 2022 from COVID-19. He practiced medicine in Montclair, NJ, and his work in endothelial research paved the way for breakthrough treatments for cardiovascular disease. Gregarious and brilliant, Gene was friend and confidante to the poet James Wright, the scientist Janet Rowley, the troubadour Steven Bruton, and the British historian and politician James Douglas- Hamilton, for whom he published English translations of the poems of Albrecht Haushofer in Hamilton's book The Truth about Rudolf Hess. Eugene is survived by his son Gilles Pugatch and sister Thelma Pugatch Malafey.

Hello Gilles & Thelma,

This memory is two years late but I only just found out that my sometime Brandeis classmate has died. I remember him as a very smart, funny, provocative guy who was great to be with. We were only together at Brandeis for one or two years but he was a welcome addition to our group of friends, class of 1955. I am sorry we never met again after graduation--so long ago--but I remember him fondly.

I am sorry for your loss,

Herb Lewis, Brandeis 1955

Gilles,
Your dad was one of a kind - a wonderful kind and loving man. I know you will miss him. I hope you and your family are doing well.

Regards,

Judy
