FLORENCE GRIEVE Obituary

GRIEVE--Florence Brogan. Florence "Flo" Brogan Grieve, 83, of Naples, Florida and Sunfish Lake, Minnesota, died October 1, 2012 of complications from a recent stoke at Thistle House, her home in Sunfish Lake. Her life was characterized by commitment to family, friends and community, as devoted wife, mother, dog lover, patron of the arts, supporter of our Minnesota veterans and their families and, most recently, political activist opposed to voter identification. She is an emerita board member of the Landmark Center in St. Paul, a dedicated supporter, with her husband, of the Guthrie Theater and the Minneapolis Institute of Art, and served on the board of directors of the Minnesota Children's Museum and Milkweed Editions. A long time member of the St. Paul Garden Club, the Pierson and Florence Grieve Courtyard at the Carlson School of Business reflects this passion. At the request of governor Rudi Perpich in the late 1980s, she participated in the development planning for Minnesota's public Arts High School. Born in Bronxville, New York, Flo attended Roycemore School in Evanston, Illinois, and Northwestern University. In 1956 she moved with her husband, Pierson "Sandy" MacDonald Grieve, and three small children to St. Louis Park, Minnesota, and began a life-long love affair with the Twin Cities. She is survived, and will be greatly missed, by her husband of 62 years, Sandy, her sister, Katherine Hynds, her three children, Peggy, Scott and Bruce, daughters-in-law, Debbie and Laureen Grieve and grandchildren Joshua Schoen and Alec, Heather, Kate and Pierce Grieve. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Grieve Family Stress and Resilience Fund at the Child Mind Institute, which helps military families get children who are struggling with emotional and behavioral problems the support they need and deserve.
