FRED PEELEN Obituary

PEELEN--Fred G. The Netherland-America Foundation is deeply saddened by untimely passing of Fred G. Peelen, member of its Board, Executive Committee and Chair of the Peter Stuyvesant Ball Organizing Committee. Fred, after graduating from The Hague Hotel School in 1962, came to the U.S. as trainee, sponsored by the Netherland-America Foundation. Upon completion of his traineeship and graduate work at the Cornell School of Hotel Administration, he joined InterContinental Hotels where, after a stellar career over 35 years, he retired in 2000 as President for the Americas of InterContinental Hotels and Resorts and Crowne Plaza Hotels and Resorts. Those who had the privilege to know and work with Fred will remember his personal loyalty, generosity and operating manager's attention to detail. With his passing, the Netherland-America Foundation has lost one of its most supportive members, and many have lost a good friend. The visitation will be at Frank E. Campbell at 1076 Madison Avenue at 81st Street, New York City, on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 from 5:00-8:00pm. A solemn Requiem Mass will be held at Saint Thomas Church on Fifth Avenue at 53rd Street on Thursday, February 16 at 11:00am. The funeral service and interment will take place in The Hague, The Netherlands, early next week.

"PEELEN HERE" AND HE WOULD ALWAYS GET ME ANSWERING THE PHONE AND WOULD SAY TO ME "JENNY ARE YOU STILL WORKING THERE" I WOULD SAY YES MR PEELEN THERE IS NO WHERE ELSE I'D RATHER BE AND HE WOULD
LAUGH. HE WILL BE MISSED BY ALL OF US
IT WAS A PLEASURE TO KNOW HIM

Many fond memories when Mr. Peelen used to visit at the Paris Inter-Continental in the 70's and 80's. To come to New York and be greeted by him after my immigration to the US was always fun and he made me feel like a long-lost sister. A great hotelier

I worked at the Inter-Continental Hotel New York, the Barcaly as his, Director of Catering from 1982 to 1989. I started my career under his guidance and learned the art of service and attention to detail through
hs eyes. Though, as a GM, FGP could be very tough, he softend his approach
by also taking care of his department heads as only he could.

His sense of style in everthing he did became our standard, seeing the hotel through his eyes was the premise by which we all operated. The hotel industry has changed over the years,I am glad I learned from one the the task masters of the industry. Farwell FGP
