GEORGE AVAKIAN Obituary

AVAKIAN--George,

renowned Jazz Producer, Manager, Writer and Executive, born in Armavir, Russia in 1919, died peacefully at home Wednesday, November 22. He produced recordings by Jazz notables such as Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Miles Davis, Bob Newhart, Johnny Mathis and Dave Brubeck. Graduate of Yale University, recipient of National Endowments of the Arts, multiple Grammys, Order of Lenin, Django d'Or, Knight of Malta. Survived by his children Maro, Anahid and Greg, and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Anahid Ajemian. Viewing Monday at Krtil Funeral Home, 1297 First Ave, 2-4pm and 7-9pm, Funeral service 7:30pm. A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date. We were so lucky to meet George&Anahid who definitely marked our lives by their kindness, their intelligence, their strong core life values , and their investments in major artistic projects. George&Anahid represented my model of Life! My deepest thoughts go to the Family little Anahid, Maro, Greg and families. We shared unforgettable happy moments! In New-York and in Paris! George&Anahid you are present forever in Paren, Bernard and myself in the bottom of our heart ! Thank You to Life for the chance we had to meet you George & Anahid with all due respect! I pray that the many Happy Memories of George and Anahid's Life with all of you ,all of us , among their Friends, the Family, their loved ones will, with time, overcome the sadness and pain that have accompanied you all as you journey and these later years .

I always remember our Happy Times in Riverdale, Manhattan , at Birdland JazzClub , in Paris ; George & Anahid will stay forever in the bottom of our heart with our deepest Love .Thank you for the great moments shared with us, it is a GIFT .

Dear little Anahid, Maro, Greg,

I met your father in the late 90's and we started our relationship by producing together Datevik's last album "listen to my heart".
Then, we became friends, as a life gift for me. Anahid and George visited us few times in France and we visited them many times in Riverdale. I have in mind our dinner at the Yacht Club or the traditional "aperitif" with Uncle Lionel on Sundays, and so much more scrumptious moments...

I was looking of being present today among you for his funeral, but could not make it.

I wish you all force and courage to overpass his loss, and deep inside of me I am happy to figure out Anahid and George somewhere together again.

My deep condolences, in armenian we say "hasdavdz ira hokin loussavore"(may God illuminate his soul).

Kindly keep me posted with his cimetary location so that I will able to visit him during my next trip in New York.

To the Avakian Family: My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.
