GERARD LYNCH Obituary

LYNCH--Gerard. Gerard (Jerry) Peter Lynch, loving husband, proud father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away Sunday August 14, 2022 with his wife Karol by his side after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He was 85. Jerry was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 5, 1936 to Dorothy and Joseph Lynch. He grew up in Queens Village, NY and received his Bachelor and Master degrees from Hunter College in 1958 and 1964. After college, Jerry started what was an illustrious career on Wall Street that spanned more than 30 years. He began his career at Bankers Trust, and ultimately joined Morgan Stanley where he became a Partner in 1974. While at Morgan Stanley he helped create an industry leading back office infrastructure. Jerry also was very active in industry issues and was a founding member of DTC (Depository Trust Company). Jerry also served as Chairman of the National Securities Clearing Corporation (NSCC) from 1984 to 1985. He retired from Morgan Stanley in 1991. Jerry firmly believed that to whom much is given, much is expected. He lived by these words and devoted time to various charities including the League Center in Brooklyn, NY and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indian River County, FL. In addition, he supported his Alma Mater, Hunter College of New York. Through various donations he also funded educational opportunities for underserved individuals, as he believed that education is the foundation of all success. In addition, he supported Indian River Medical Center (now part of Cleveland Clinic) and personally funded a variety of research projects aimed at Parkinson's disease. Jerry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He married his loving wife Karol on August 9th 1999. They shared 23 years together spending time in Colorado, Florida, and New Jersey. Jerry enjoyed golfing trips with his friends, family get-togethers, fly fishing, and skiing. An avid runner, he completed five New York City marathons. He loved the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Yankees. He was a voracious reader of historical non-fiction, with a special passion for World War II history especially the life and writings of Winston Churchill. A quiet yet observant man he led by example and instilled in his children the value of a strong work ethic and the importance of a job well done. He took great pride in his family and their life events and accomplishments. Jerry is survived by his loving wife Karol, daughters Elizabeth Randolph (Brian), Allison Hone (Andrew), Jocelyn Lynch (Patrick McCartney), sons Christopher (Jeanne), Peter (Lisa), and Gerard (Stacy) Lynch, grandchildren Stephen Bakos (Kristine), Caroline, Natalie and Grace Hone, Abigail Foley, Charles Lynch, Vivian Lynch, great grandchildren Benjamin, Sebastian and Theodore Bakos. Funeral arrangements are private. A Celebration of Life for Jerry will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerry's memory can be made to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indian River County, 1729 17th Avenue, Vero Beach, FL 32960 or to the Parkinson's Foundation at: parkinson.org/donate.
