GUNTHER K. WERTHEIM

WERTHEIM--Gunther Klaus, 87, died unexpectedly on July 14 at his home in Morristown, NJ. Born in Berlin, Germany, he lived in the United States from age 12 and enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II. He earned a Ph.D. in physics from Harvard University (1955) after undergraduate studies at Stevens Institute of Technology (1951). He conducted research at Bell Telephone Laboratories for 40 years and continued to consult with other physicists after his retirement. His wife, Lee Hilles, died in 1995. He is survived by his brother Michael, his daughter Lisa Fraebel, sons Frederick and Charles and two grandsons. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on July 23 at the Presbyterian Church in Morristown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Endowed Fund in Memory of Lee Hilles Wertheim '51 at Smith College.
