Roberta, Nina, and all;
So saddened to only now be finding this out. Needless to say, Harold was a major force in my life, starting in 1955, when I was 11, and then hiring me as an apprentice/assistant, in 1958, when I was just 13, and continued to--summers and Christmas vacations--through High school, and the start of college. It makes me sad that over time, we eventually lost contact, and then it was such a thrill that two of you came to that party of mine, some years back, and there continued to be email for while. He was a wonderful, wonderful man...and I will always remember him incredibly fondly, and the great kindness, creativity, and love that he had. RIP Harold...you will be deeply missed.

Dearest Roberta, our thoughts and prayers are with you in the lost of Harold. It was an honor and pleasure having you as our next door neighbors for over 17 years. Harold was one of a kind. When he was born they broke the mold. Please stay strong and may time bring you peace and also to your two precious dogs who will also sorely miss Harold. Harold, you left a legacy and the world is a better place because of you. We will miss you dear friend. Allan France and John Valentino

Roberta, Harold truly enriched the lives of all who knew him not just with his gentle, sunny wit but with his evident joy in living. He generously shared his glowing artistic vision, his pleasure in wine and good food, his deep affection for his dogs--and above all his deep love for his true life partner.

We have fond memories of our visits with you and Harold in NYC, in NH, at mom's and our homes. I just recalled his comment at my HS graduation about a gorgeous, tall blond friend of mine. Harold asked "is she a nun?" because she was heavily involved with Campus Life, a Christian youth organization, at the time.

We know that no words can help ease the pain and loss that you are feeling right now. It's the little things, the small everyday occurrences that you will remember. The laughs, the stories, the smiles. And even though it seems like you can never recover from your loss, it is these very memories that will help push the pain away and bring back the smiles. Our deepest sympathies are with you at this time of grieving.

Harold's presence was graced by his gentle and sunny smile, formidable intelligence and wonderful wit. The perfect New Yorker. That Norman and Niko still remember their puppyhoods with great enthusiasm when they saw Harold speaks to his soul. He is already missed.
