HAROLD STONE Obituary

STONE--Harold,

a theater director and former Associate Director of the Juilliard Drama Division, died peacefully at home in Manhattan on Saturday, June 10. He was 87. Nephew of violinist Jascha Heifetz, Harold began his career as stage manager for producer David Merrick, then directed regional theater, off-Broadway, and Broadway. In 1974, Harold joined Juilliard's Drama Division where he spent 27 years as director, teacher, and administrator, mentoring countless students and colleagues. Harold's children Christopher, Nicholas, and Rebecca from his first marriage to the late Antonia Stone, and stepchildren Susan, Carla, Daniel, and Thomas Davidoff from his second marriage to the late Linda (Greenberg) Davidoff, along with their spouses, mourn the loss of his warmth, humor, and generosity. Harold is also survived by his cherished friend, Linda Amster, his brother David Behrman, nephews Michael and Peter Gelb, 14 grandchildren and step-grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Actors Fund or to the Juilliard School to support the Harold Stone Drama Scholarship established by Bradley Whitford.
