HARVEY CHERTOK Obituary

CHERTOK--Harvey. Harvey Chertok said farewell to this world on Sunday, February 25th with his family by his side. He was 91 years young and invincible until the end. Born in 1932, the son of immigrants Frank and Anna Chertok, Mr. Chertok grew up in the Bronx. He graduated from NYU with a BA and MBA, where he made lifelong friends with the fraternity brothers of Alpha Sigma Chi. As an entertainment empresario, Mr. Chertok produced "7 Surprizes" with the National Film Board of Canada and "The Great Charlie Chan," a documentary about Hollywood's classic detective series. Chertok came to lead public relations for Time Life Television, promoting all BBC productions in the U.S. and introducing American audiences to "Monty Python's Flying Circus" and "Doctor Who." He also publicized special events for Presidents Nixon, Carter, and Reagan. The recipient of four Emmys, Mr. Chertok produced "The Impossible Spy," the award-winning true story of Israel's national hero, Eli Cohen, with his own production company, Quartet International. Chertok served as a long-time Trustee of the New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). He also taught "The Business of Television" at NYU and The New School. More than any of these professional accomplishments, Mr. Chertok will be remembered for his eternal optimism. He is survived by his loving wife, Bobbi, their three children, Michael, Pamela, and Douglas, son-in-law Paul Caine, and grandchildren, Samantha, Ryan, and Gavin Caine.
