HARVEY SILVERMAN Obituary

SILVERMAN--Harvey. The Adaptive Sports Foundation of Windham, New York mourns the passing of our friend and leader Harvey Silverman as we extend our heartfelt condolences to his beloved wife, Karen and his children Scott and Elyssa. A founding member and longtime Chairman of the ASF Board, Harvey offered our organization steadfast guidance, unsurpassed generosity and profound kindness for over thirty years. The mission of the ASF: to empower lives through adaptive sports was conceived of and nurtured by Harvey's love of skiing with his family at Windham and his desire to share this joy with all - regardless of one's mental or physical ability. At a time when few doors were opened to the disabled community, Harvey served as a trailblazer in the field, working tirelessly to create opportunity, accessibility and above all a spirit of acceptance for those whom life had dealt a challenging hand. Harvey was the consummate bridge builder, his calm demeanor, keen intellect and thoughtful approach enabled him to connect business and community leaders, board and staff members, parents and volunteers all dedicated to a common mission. In so doing he made the impossible possible for thousands of men, women and children living with life altering conditions. Harvey never wanted any recognition for all he did. He felt most rewarded by the smiles and sense of camaraderie within the ASF community. Time and again Harvey said one of his greatest joys was seeing ASF participants, be it a child with autism or a Wounded Warrior on a bi-ski, gliding down Whiteway just outside his Windham home. Harvey's commitment to share this joy will remain a part of our work and mission always. We are forever grateful for his friendship, his counsel and his unceasing generosity. With deepest gratitude, Vince Passione, Chair, on behalf of the Board of Trustees, staff and volunteers of the Adaptive Sports Foundation
