My heart has a little corner that will always be Helene's. We met 8 years ago on my first trip to Provincetown. I loved dining at the bar and so was the case on my first visit to the Lobster Pot upstairs at the Bar. I was sitting at the very corner and this lovely soft spoken "red-headed" lady (at the time) asked if the seat next to me was taken. I replied no, please sit here. From that moment we became fast friends and stayed in touch until my last phone call with her just 5 days before her passing. At dinner that night we talked for hours. I shared that I was an actor/singer and the many roles I had played, only to find out that she was an avid theatre and music lover. We shared so many life stories and we both felt such a lovely connection. The one serendipitous dinner evolved into a sweet relationship between myself a 60 plus year old gay man and a beautiful intelligent, kind, funny straight lady. Subsequently, we had rendezvous in PTOWN, many more times. We also had a lovely few days in NYC and I took her to see the incomparable singer Marilyn Maye for Marilyn’s 95th Birthday Debut Concert at Carnegie Hall. It was truly magical. Even through her years of fighting so hard with her illness...her grace, gratitude, humor and love were always present. On every subsequent visit, to Provincetown, we had our "Lobster Pot" reunion and I jokingly said is was like the final scene from the movie, "AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER" meeting on the top of the Empire State Building. Last year for my Birthday Trip to PTown, we watched the Carnival Parade together, and we celebrated my 66th Birthday at the Red Inn. I feared it might be the last time, I would see her and it was. But the memories, like all whose life she touched, will always live in my heart. I know she dearly love her Tennis family and I grieve with each of you. As I head back to Provincetown in 2 weeks, I will sit in the same seat at the Lobster Pot and raise a toast to our sweet Helene.
