HENRY G. EISENBERG

EISENBERG--Henry G., of Manhattan, age 88, on March 8, 2013, after a brief illness. Loving and devoted husband of Celia, who died in 2004 after 49 years of marriage. Loving and proud father of John, Elly, Thomas, and Daniel. Loving and delighted grandfather ("Baba") of Ben, Charlotte, William, Sophie, Margaret, Celia, Lucas, Oliver, Emilio, Theodore and Filimon. Loving and admiring father-in-law of Zoe, Theresa and Martha. Born on June 16, 1924 in Kassel, Germany, he moved with his parents Ernst and Liesl to New York City in 1937. After serving with the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II, he graduated from City College and went on to have an accomplished career in the copper trading business. He rose to become president of Brandeis, Goldschmidt, a subsidiary of S.G. Warburg, and was a Governor on the board of the COMEX. An Upper West Sider for the last 75 years of his life, he loved dining out at his favorite restaurants (Lutece, The Modern, Union Square Cafe), cheering (and criticizing) his hometown teams, attending the opera and concerts, playing poker, and vacationing in Truro, Sils im Engadin, and Vermont. We are fortunate to have spent so many years laughing with and learning from this generous, true gentleman, who loved to host family and friends, especially by opening a very cold bottle of champagne.
