HENRY FARR Jr.

HENRY FARR Obituary

FARR--Henry Bartow, Jr., 89, of Winston-Salem, died Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Farr was born on June 16, 1921 in New York City where he practiced law. In 1980 he moved to Winston-Salem to join R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., retiring in 1986. He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Roberts Farr; three sons: H. Bartow Farr, III, Preston W. Farr and Christopher B. Farr; three grandchildren: Blair Farr Underwood, Eleanor Putnam Farr and Ashley Farr; and two great-grandchildren: Wagner Walton Underwood and Theodore Putnam Nelson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Piedmont Opera, 235 N. Cherry St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101. Online condolences may be made through www.salemfh.com.

Bartow was a role model for me when I entered the practice of law. His thinking was international in scope, his mind sharp, but not his tongue. He had grace, dignity, wit and common sense in abundance. He had a sense of proportion and propriety that is rarely found in lawyers today. Adieu, Bartow, and thanks for showing me how a good lawyer comports himself.
