HERBERT GLIMCHER

GLIMCHER--Herb. Herbert Glimcher, known fondly as Herb, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025. Born on February 9, 1927, in Duluth, Minnesota, Herb was a charismatic and ambitious person who lived a life filled with love, generosity, and purpose. A devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, his zest for life was contagious, as were his hugs to all who knew him. Herb, a successful real estate developer, began his career with building Giant Stores in Mansfield, Ohio. His entrepreneurial spirit and relentless work ethic led him to establish his own business, Glimcher Realty Trust, which marked one of the largest New York Stock Exchange IPOs in central Ohio history. As his professional success grew so did his generosity. Known for his philanthropy, Herb supported many organizations, including Columbus synagogues, Jewish Columbus, Jewish Family Services, JCC, Kosher Food Bank, and OSU Hillel. Additionally, he supported The James, Columbus Museum Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art New York, Israel Museum Jerusalem, United Way, Columbus Metropolitan Library, Goodwill, and Mid Ohio Food Collective. Devoted to his family and bilingual in Yiddish, Herb deeply valued his Jewish heritage. Married to his beloved wife DeeDee for 60 years, together they shared a love of art and travel. A voracious reader, Herb's curiosity and love for learning were central to his being. He was preceded in death by his wife Nona Moskow Glimcher; parents, Paul and Eva Glimcher; sister, Marion (Morris) Dach, and brother, Mayer (Patty) Glimcher. Herbert is survived by his wife DeeDee; children, David (Lenore), Robert (Megan), Ellen and Michael (Spenser); and brother, Arne (Milly); grandchildren, Nick, Jordan, Brandon, Jason, Gabe, Quincie, Layne, Brock, Leah, Grant and Blair; 10 great-grandchildren and many extended family and friends. Herb's legacy will continue to live on through his family and the lives of those he touched.
