HERBERT KAPLAN Obituary

KAPLAN--Herbert David. H. David Kaplan of Federal Way, Washington, passed away, October 10, 2022, at the age of 87. He was born to the late Harry and Betty Kaplan, in Brooklyn, NY. He was predeceased by his sister, Mildred Klein. David, as he was known to all, graduated from University of Michigan, in 1956, with a BA in Journalism. His career included writing, editing and production management in retail, travel and the performing arts; taking him from New York, NY to Houston, TX and, ultimately, to Federal Way, Washington; where he served on numerous local civic committees. Together with his late partner of 47 years, Dr. Stanley M. Pier, fostered his love of the arts, attending, as well as supporting, the Pacific Northwest Ballet and Seattle Opera, the University of Washington Musical Theater Program and the University of Michigan Music School. David is survived by his niece and her husband; two nephews and two great- grandnieces. Interment is on Long Island.

I've been missing Dave at Pacific Northwest Ballet meetings and shows for a long time. He was a good friend and I am grateful to have known him. I will be sure to attend The Nutcracker December 26th in remembrance of Dave and Stanley, per Dave's tradition.

David was a dear dear friend and a role model for supporting the arts as well as an incredible source of knowledge of them. We had many special times with him and he will be sorely missed but never forgotten.
